Güssing

In sunny but cold Autumn, a one-day trip to south-eastern Austria, close to the Hungarian and Slovenian border, the town of Güssing. Parts of the town have a rich history, such as the chapel that dates back to the 9th century. Güssing is part of Burgenland, a thin strip of land that historically was part of Hungary, but wanted to become part of Austria after the Austro-Hungarian empire collapsed, because most people living there were ethnically Austrian/German (a hundred years ago there was no clear distinction yet). Being far away from major cities and having a somewhat underdeveloped infrastructure compared to the western parts of Austria means Güssing struggles with out-migration. This might be your chance to buy a piece of land cheaply in this beautiful part of Austria!
